We first saw Le Caillau in September 2008 and immedietely knew that this was the place for us. A 300-year-old wine domaine set in the heart of the Cahors vineyards, it’s a peaceful location yet still close to many small villages and towns with plenty of activities on offer for holidaymakers.
Le Caillau was one of the three foremost houses in the commune of Vire-sur-Lot and the only winery with an underground cellar. Wine ceased to be made at Le Caillau in 1970 but there are still many signs of its glorious past dotted about the place. Our aim is to preserve this rich sense of history whilst incorporating important aspects of modern life.
We both worked in London’s fast-paced marketing world for many years, which shows we like a challenge, and Le Caillau has certainly been a challenge, albeit of a different kind and on a different scale. Along with our two daughters we have thrown ourselves into French life, picking up the local dialect, haggling with the local artisans and enjoying far too much local wine and cheese.
Le Caillau was love at first sight for us. We think it will be for you too, and we look forward to welcoming you soon.
